Glass Wall Art – Good Samaritan depicted at Loma Linda University

January 8th, 2014 by ssearles – Comments (0)

Sans Soucie was commissioned to create this stunning etched glass wall art piece for one of the most respected medical universities in the United States, Loma Linda University in Murrieta, California.   The University is not only an excellent hospital with an impeccable reputation, but is one of the top medical universities in the U.S. and one of the most difficult schools to be accepted for. It is a Seventh-day Adventist educational health-science institution with more than 4,000 students.  LLU is composed of 8 schools within the university.  It offers 55 programs by the schools of Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, Religion and Behavioral Health.

The piece is 84′ wide x 42″ tall and is made up of 1/2″ thick clear glass that has been hand chiseled with irregular custom edging on three sides then deep sandblast etched and carved in a custom design created by owner/artist Chauncey Gannett, depicting the story in the Bible of the Good Samaritan, also the title of the piece.  The glass is mounted using stainless steel stand-off posts, surrounded by wood paneling also chiseled to follow the glass edges.  To bring out the detail sin the carving even further, the glass is then edge lit from the bottom, to finish off the stunning, dramatic effect.  Click here to see a larger and additional photos of  the piece inside the online Gallery

Custom Sculpture Carved and Painted Glass Signs

October 23rd, 2012 by pattyg – Comments (0)

Custom glass sign, with logo and lettering sculpture carved and painted glass. The background can be solid frost sandblasted. Sans Soucie Art Glass specializes in custom made, etched and carved glass signs that are engraved through sandblasting the letters and/or + logo on to the glass. The letters and logo can be either etched on the surface of the glass, OR they can be 3-dimensionally sculpture carved into the glass, or engraved, which creates a look of the lettering and logo literally “floating” in the glass.

Any custom color can be added to the carved glass surface. The glass must be carved in order to be able to add color Sometimes solid or metalic colors are added, but most often, a transparent color is selected, so that light can pass thru, creating lettering and logos that are not only 3-dimensional, but now have illuminated color.

There’s a huge advantage of sandblasting the glass with lettering and logos, verses just using vinyl sign lettering in that the sandblasted surface will never peel up, chip, fade or disintegrate. And of course, there’s no comparison between vinyl lettering and the look and feel or 3-dimensionally carved and painted glass that’s illuminated!

Sans Soucie Art Glass has created a large number of various Indian maiden and Warrior characters.  Color is often incorporated into these designs to really bring out a southwest feel.  This glass is  “3D SCULPTURE CARVED & PAINTED”.   A “multi-stage” sandblast where the artist sandblast carves the design, one small segment at a time, cutting deep into the glass, creating a sculpted, relief texture of varying depths.  The edges of the carved shapes within the image will illuminate and appear whiter and brighter as they pick up and reflect the surrounding light.    A minimum thickness of 3/8” THICK GLASS IS REQUIRED FOR 3D CARVING. Hand etched and carved glass doors can be made to be 100% private or if you prefer we can do a semi- private  sandblast to let more light shine through.

Etched Glass Wall Art Portraying the History of Palm Desert

"The History of Palm Desert" depicted in etched, carved art glass wall pieces at Kaiser Medical Offices, Palm Desert.

"The History of Palm Desert" depicted in etched, carved art glass wall pieces at Kaiser Medical Offices, Palm Desert.

Sans Soucie Art Glass Studios created a beautiful set of etched glass decorative wall art pieces, with a custom design that portrays the history of Palm Desert, California.

Panel 1: Open Desert and the beginning of settlers

Panel 1: Open Desert and the beginning of settlers

Commissioned by JD Thompson Interior Design of San Diego, California, for the Kaiser Permanente, Palm Desert Medical Offices, the story flows across 5 glass panels, continuing from one to the next.  Each panel is 30″ wide x 60″ tall, and is 3/8″ thick glass that is etched and 3-dimensionally sculpture carved on the front surface of the glass.

With the desert’s majestic mountain ranges as the backdrop on each panel, Chauncey W. Gannett of Sans Soucie Art Glass designed a beautiful “landscape” scene that begins by depicting the story from Palm Desert’s farm land beginnings to the beautiful resort destination that it is today.

The first panel begins by showing “open desert” with an ocotillo in the foreground and the first cart of a horse drawn carriage.  The next shows the carriage and team of horses, carting in potable water for the original settlers, the Cahuilla indian farmers.  Leading into the next panel are rows of crops in the ground, representing the “Old MacDonald Ranch“, the original name of the Palm Desert area.

The center panel features rows of crops with gorgeous date palms and an adobe home, all of

which are beautifully sculpture carved into the glass.  As we move into the fourth panel, the landscape changes and we see the 5 stone “Agave” City of Palm Desert monument sign by artist Michael Waiting, that marks the entrance into Palm Desert, with children in a local public park, playing on teeter-totter and hot air balloons, high in the sky, a popular sight-seeing desert cities activity.

In the forefront of the fifth and final panel, surrounded by the sprawling oasis and gorgeous fairways at JW Marriott’s Desert Springs Hotel we see a gondola motoring along a lake, with a carving of hotel’s atrium terrace hotel in the background.  Also in the background, is a rendering of the desert’s first university, the California State University San Bernardino, Palm Desert Campus.
