Sans Soucie Art Glass Studios created a beautiful set of etched glass decorative wall art pieces, with a custom design that portrays the history of Palm Desert, California.

Panel 1: Open Desert and the beginning of settlers

Commissioned by JD Thompson Interior Design of San Diego, California, for the Kaiser Permanente, Palm Desert Medical Offices, the story flows across 5 glass panels, continuing from one to the next.  Each panel is 30″ wide x 60″ tall, and is 3/8″ thick glass that is etched and 3-dimensionally sculpture carved on the front surface of the glass.

With the desert’s majestic mountain ranges as the backdrop on each panel, Chauncey W. Gannett of Sans Soucie Art Glass designed a beautiful “landscape” scene that begins by depicting the story from Palm Desert’s farm land beginnings to the beautiful resort destination that it is today.

The first panel begins by showing “open desert” with an ocotillo in the foreground and the first cart of a horse drawn carriage.  The next shows the carriage and team of horses, carting in potable water for the original settlers, the Cahuilla indian farmers.  Leading into the next panel are rows of crops in the ground, representing the “Old MacDonald Ranch“, the original name of the Palm Desert area.

The center panel features rows of crops with gorgeous date palms and an adobe home, all of

which are beautifully sculpture carved into the glass.  As we move into the fourth panel, the landscape changes and we see the 5 stone “Agave” City of Palm Desert monument sign by artist Michael Waiting, that marks the entrance into Palm Desert, with children in a local public park, playing on teeter-totter and hot air balloons, high in the sky, a popular sight-seeing desert cities activity.

In the forefront of the fifth and final panel, surrounded by the sprawling oasis and gorgeous fairways at JW Marriott’s Desert Springs Hotel we see a gondola motoring along a lake, with a carving of hotel’s atrium terrace hotel in the background.  Also in the background, is a rendering of the desert’s first university, the California State University San Bernardino, Palm Desert Campus.

Video of Sans Soucie Glass at Bank of America Tower, New York

November 13th, 2009 by lgannett – Comments (0)

Check out the video about our largest project to date:  Etched Glass Ceiling & Wall Glass at The Bank of America Tower at One Bryant Park in New York City!

Iconic architecture and bold technologies were the brainchild of global building firm DURST Organization and its architects, COOK+FOX, when creating the BANK OF AMERICA TOWER at ONE BRYANT PARK.

And at Sans Soucie, with our reputation of creating high-end custom works in glass for luxury estates and a variety of commercial projects, the opportunity to answer when New York came calling was a welcome challenge.

Our largest project to date, David Shuldiner, Inc., commissioned us to create glass in

Bank of America Tower at One Bryant Park, New York

three locations: suspended over the main desk, as an accent in the elevator lobby, and as the ceiling in the secondary lobby. The design was applied to Starphire® clear glass, with one surface sandcarved approximately 1/16” deep with a detailed, complex texture, simulating a “tree bark effect.” The background area of the glass was acid etched. In total, there are 359 pieces of glass, adding up to 4065 square feet of carved glass.

We are proud to state that in a global market where custom works of glass fall in the hands of few, we at Sans Soucie are honored to have been part of a project as monumental as the Bank of America Tower.

facebook-logoBe sure to visit and become a fan of our Facebook page!   We update our page continually  with various posts, lots of photos, info. on recently completed projects, our blog posts and comments from our customers and friends!

If you don’t know what Facebook is or haven’t checked it out yet, you may want to give it a try.  Visit this link for some information: About Facebook. I first learned about Facebook maybe a year or so ago, but until this summer, I had never really “used it”.  This summer I had a friend who was diagnosed with breast cancer, and the truth is, that’s when I became a “Fan of Facebook”.   It was an incredibly useful tool or avenue for her to  use, to update her loved ones about her status and a way for us to communicate back to her, with our love and support, without having to make ump-teen impossible phone calls and conversations with us that she would’ve been incapable of.   I know that’s an odd-turn to take … to talk about something that personal on a “business blog”, but behind every business, are PEOPLE, and that was my experience of how I got started using Facebook, and therefore I think worth sharing!

From there, I learned it wasn’t only a great way to connect with friends and family, but also as a business tool to communicate about recent projects and post news about the goings-on of Sans Soucie!

We’ve currently got 10 albums featured, different groups of photos featuring one of our product lines or design styles.  Much like our blog, you can leave comments and give feedback about the various pieces which we enjoy reading!

It’s fun, it’s free and although it does take a little time to learn, I promise .. it’s fairly easy once you get going!

Sans Soucie Art Glass Studios, Inc, was selected to create a carved glass representation of the United States presidential seal for the new aircraft carrier, The USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77).
The seal is hand-carved in three dimensions on a 1/2” thick 28” wide x 46” tall piece of Starphire® clear glass.

This impressive design is finished with the signature of 41st president, George H.W. Bush just beneath it and illuminated by LED edge lighting to give it an authoritative presence.
The piece is now on display in the entrance of the Tribute Room, where photographs and biographical information about George H.W. Bush are arrayed to honor the namesake of the ship.

Bank of America Glass featured in Glass Magazine

September 1st, 2009 by lgannett – Comments (0)

The industry publication Glass Magazine, featured an article about the glass we did for The Bank of America Tower at One Bryant Park, New York.

The tree bark texture glass is suspended as a large "cube" of ceiling glass, inside the main lobby entrance.

The article was released earlier this year, but is continually posted on their web site, inside their “Photo Gallery:  Green Great Glazings” section.   The project was the first featured in the section, and is listed among many other notable “green” projects or buildings such as the University of Colorado’s Research Complex, (which won the Project of the Year award for more than $3 million projects from the Colorado Glazing Contractors Association.  Also featured is an article about special Nano-coating used on glass at California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, California.

Glass Magazine serves the architectural, retail and automotive glass industries and is published monthly.  We have been receiving the magazine for a number of years and find it to be a very informative resource for product guides, industry profiles, industry stats and informative coverage.

Sans Soucie Art Glass Studios was recently selected to carve the United States Marine Corps seal, for installation inside the Officers Club at the U.S. Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, California.

The 36″ diameter seal is deep carved on the front side of a 1/2″ thick clear, tempered glass panel.  The panel is installed as a wall art piece, using stand-off posts and is spot lit from the ceiling.

The panel was delivered and installed by Sans Soucie glaziers in July 2009 and is now proudly on display inside the officers club.

The Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC), also known as 29 Palms, Twentynine Stumps or simply the “Stumps”, is the largest U.S. Marine Corps base in the country.  Its located adjacent to the city of Twentynine Palms in southern San Bernardino County, California.  Twentynine Palms has a reputation within the Marine Corps for its relative desolation and isolation, due to the harsh desert climate and the remote nature of the base.  As of the year 2000 census, the base had a total population of 8,413.  The base was first established in 1949.
