How To Calculate Square Feet

Our tool does all the work for you, but if you’re curious about how it’s done, here’s how to calculate square feet by inches and by feet:

Calculating Square Footage in Inches

In the glass industry, measurements are typically in inches. Here’s how to calculate square footage of your glass, when using inches. First, measure the length and width of your glass in inches. Then, multiply these two numbers together to get the area in square inches. Finally, to convert to square feet, divide this number by 144 (since one square foot is 144 square inches). For example, if a pane of glass is 60 inches wide and 80 inches tall, the area in square inches is 5,040 (60 x 84). Divide this by 144, and you get 35 square feet. It’s that simple!

To calculate square feet using feet, simply multiply the length of the area by its width in feet. For instance, if a room is 10 feet long and 15 feet wide, its square footage would be 150 square feet (10 feet x 15 feet = 150 square feet).
